Apertura eccezionale, tutti i giorni dal 26 dicembre all’8 gennaio, tranne lunedì 2 gennaio.

The Fortress of Solferino – A Thousand Years of History and December openings

On Saturday, December 17, at 3 p.m., the bookLa Rocca di Solferino – Mille anni di storia (The Fortress of Solferino – A Thousand Years of History), published by Società di Solferino and San Martino and written by Professor Giusi Villari will be presented to the public at the restaurant “Da Renato” in Solferino.

In this millennium, from 1022 to the present day, the “Spia d’Italia (Spy of Italy)“ has been the protagonist of countless historical events: it has seen changing dominions and kingdoms, witnessed battles, and watched the surrounding urban and natural landscape change.

Initially, in the Brescian sphere of influence, it passed into the ownership of the Bonacolsi family, then became a Gonzaga fortress. It was involved in the War of the Mantuan Succession as a fortress and military garrison. After the Gonzaga golden age was over, Austrian and French rule followed, then the Kingdom of Sardinia, until the proclamation of the Kingdom of Italy.

The book examines the history of the Rocca in the context of the changing dominions, taking into account the urban and territorial transformations.

As the scene of the Napoleonic and Risorgimento battles, the “Spia d’Italia (Spy of Italy)” was declared a place of memory, restored and preserved by the Società di Solferino and San Martino to continue to be accessible to anyone who wishes to visit.

Exceptionally, on Saturday morning, December 17, the Rocca and the Solferino Museum will be open to the public free of charge from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.

In the afternoon, on the occasion of the book presentation at the restaurant “Da Renato,” it will be possible to buy a copy autographed by the author. The book will then be available for sale in the Solferino and San Martino Museum bookstores.

The Rocca and the Museum in Solferino will be open during the winter until March 17, only for groups of at least ten people, by phone reservation (030 9910370).

From December 11, the opening hours for visiting the monumental complex of San Martino della Battaglia will also change, accessible only on Saturdays and Sundays (9 a.m.-12:30 p.m. and 2-5:30 p.m.), except for the weekend of December 24 and 25.

Exceptional opening, daily from December 26 to January 8, except Monday, January 2.

From January 9 to March 17, the San Martino Tower and Museum will again be open to the public on Saturdays and Sundays only.
