La storia non va in vacanza: a Ferragosto, al Museo di Solferino, verrà inaugurata una piccola mostra dedicata ai due fotografi parigini Gustave Le Gray ed André Adolphe Eugene Disdéri che fotografarono i Generali di divisione francesi che furono sul campo di battaglia di Solferino.

La fotografia era agli albori, ma a Parigi ferveva il genio fotografico di alcuni dei padri di quest’arte, tra cui Felix Nadar (1820-1910) che poco prima della battaglia di Solferino, sorvolando l’area su una mongolfiera Godard, realizzò alcuni scatti dall’alto del territorio. Un drone ante litteram: il primo esempio di fotografia aerea della storia.

Nadar acquistò a Parigi lo studio fotografico di Gustave Le Gray (1820-1884), che nel 1857, due anni prima della battaglia, immortalò alcuni dei Generali di divisione di Solferino: quelli della Guardia Imperiale: Mellinet, Camou, Morris e Decaen del II Corpo d’Armata.

Tra i più ricercati fotografi parigini dell’epoca, c’era Disdéri (1819-1889), che nello stesso anno della battaglia, il 1859, realizzò un ritratto fotografico dell’Imperatore dei Francesi, Napoleone III e nel corso della sua carriera ebbe modo di fotografare i Generali di Divisione del I Corpo d’Armata: Forey, De Ladmirault, Bazaine; La Motte Rouge del II Corpo d’Armata, Trochu del III Corpo d’Armata e Vinoy del IV.

Un’occasione per esplorare un’arte, quella della fotografia, che a metà del XIX secolo era ai suoi esordi e per osservare, nelle fotografie, alcuni dei protagonisti della battaglia del 24 giugno 1859.

La mostra permanente, che presenta le copie delle fotografie del XIX secolo, insieme ai pannelli esplicativi relativi al contesto storico culturale, è visitabile senza alcun costo aggiuntivo rispetto al normale biglietto d’ingresso del Museo (3 euro ingresso intero; 2 euro ingresso ridotto).

French photography of the 19th century in the Solferino Museum

History doesn’t take a vacation: on August 15th, the Solferino Museum will open a small exhibition dedicated to the two Parisian photographers Gustave Le Gray and André Adolphe Eugene Disdéri, who photographed the French division generals who were on the battlefield of Solferino.

Photography was still in its infancy, but the photographic genius of some of the fathers of the art was fermenting in Paris, including Felix Nadar (1820-1910), who flew over the area in a Godard hot-air balloon just before the Battle of Solferino and took some photographs from above – a drone ante litteram: the first example of aerial photography in history.

Nadar bought in Paris the photographic studio of Gustave Le Gray (1820-1884), who, in 1857, two years before the battle, had immortalized some of the divisional generals of Solferino: those of the Imperial Guard: Mellinet, Camou, Morris, and Decaen of the 2nd Army Corps.

Among the most sought-after Parisian photographers of the time was Disdéri (1819-1889), who, in the same year of the battle, 1859, made a photographic portrait of the Emperor of the French, Napoleon III, and during his career had the opportunity to photograph the Division Generals of the 1st Army Corps: Forey, De Ladmirault, Bazaine; La Motte Rouge of the 2nd Army Corps, Trochu of the 3rd Army Corps and Vinoy of 4th Army Corps.

It is an opportunity to discover art, photography, which was still in its infancy in the mid-19th century, and to see some of the protagonists of the battle of June 24, 1859, in photographs.

The permanent exhibition, with copies of the 19th-century photographs and explanatory panels on the cultural and historical context, can be visited at no extra charge at the Museum’s regular admission price (€3 full price; €2 reduced price).
